Subterfuge
1978

It's 1978 and Manchester's elusive Subterfuge gives voice to the enlightened minority with their vicious aural assault on the nauseating mindless soul stealing phenomenan that gripped the nation - disco. In Manchester while some of us experienced heaven in The Factory,Rafters,The Mayflower,The Electric Circus etc the majority of our peers inhabited a parallel world where they made a weekly pilgrimage to Rotters where they'd participate in a tragic beer-fueled ritual they called "trapping off" .This often involved a bizarre mating display where the males would dance like Travolta (in their tiny minds' eyes !)and the females would drunkenly shuffle 'round their handbags in between mass visits to the toilets to discuss or invent possible merits of their suitors - all done to the moronic soundtrack popularly referred to as "disco".The same scenes were familiar in every city throughout the UK. This song highlights Subterfuge's mastery of sarcasm in both words and music -possibly their finest hour. FOLLOW THE LINK TO SEE THE VIDEO.
