The Outriders
1963

The Outriders formed in Hazel Grove (nr Stockport) in 1962 with a four piece line-up of Alan Kettle (Vocal) Chris Hallworth (Drums), Graham Joynson (Guitar) and Arthur Butler (Bass), playing in and around their base at Youth Clubs and a few pubs.

It wasn’t until Alan Kettle left and Giles Bodoano (Bodo) arrived on rhythm guitar and lead vocals that the band really took off.

Soon finding an audience across the North West THE OUTRIDERS became know for good hard rocking performances and fine playing.

“I shared love of guitar with your dad. Grew up round the corner on Pearl St. Joined the Cyclones and then left for the States in ’67. I wish I could help but just wanted to connect with someone from my past.”

“Hi
Does anyone have any form of recordings of their music anywhere.
I am collecting resources for hobby purposes and heard of this band not too long ago from one of the relatives of one of the members. If anybody has any relevant information please let me know. Thanks in advance.”

“@Mrscflanagan Wow I was surprised, when I've seen my inbox about new comments from this site. So last year I was searching for information about them, but came up empty handed unfortunately. Just found bits of information here and there, was asking around on some similar websites/libraries, but did not find much, sorry. And I am not related to anybody personally, I just know a person, who was related. Wanted to surprise her with my findings.
If I find anything or come across any news later on, I will report back on here. And your last sentence means you sure they have a released vinyl somewhere out there?? If you have any more detail about that I would be glad to hear it, be it the release date or any smaller detail. Thanks and have a good one.”

“Hi , One of songs recorded at Nield & Hardys was Certain Memory and the other was The Girl with Green eyes
It was produced by Mike Mansfield who had just left The Dakotas (Billy J Kramer)
Green Eyes was written by Chris & myself about Ellen, Chris’s 1st wife. I wrote Certain Memory.
I saw CJH about 10 years ago with Brian Higginbottom who took the bass role after Arthur, I met up with Arthur around 2007 in High Lane when my band worked in a Country Music club
I tried to contact GJ to buy his Guild Stafford if he had it, but his wife just screamed at me down the phone.
Paul are you Ellen’s son if so say a huge hello from me.
Giles Bodoano”

“Wow again, this comment section is always making me so surprised. My first comment was 3.5 years ago. But your comment is refreshing and very welcome. Thanks for all the detailed information, I will try my best to find a physical version of any of them in the near future, if it's still around somewhere. 👍
Wish you the best and I hope with the help of your comment, this comment section becomes lively again with new informations and questions or stories😁”

“Just to put the record straight about this mythical record… it was only a demo and never released in fact I can’t recall ever seeing or hearing a copy, I think it was just cut straight to disc but only the one copy.
We carried on after Chris left with another drummer Colin Smith we put an organ on Jimmy ?? We played a lot of the Theatre clubs and had a manager called Ray called it a day in late 1965.
I carried on in music professionally until 2014 when health caused me to quit.
I look back with good memories of The Outriders…
One New Years Eve we had a double ..Buxton Pavilion and Chorley College, we couldn’t get out of the locked gates at Buxton so drove our big van through them and got to Chorley on time”

“Oh thanks for clearing, that up about the the physical record. 👍 Was looking things up with the help of some A.I. search, but came up empty handed, but that explains why.
Anyways, the main thing is, that it's good to hear you think back on the band and members with good memories. And that bit you mentioned about the double booking, Hahaha it must been quite something, sounds like it could be a scene out of a movie.
Thanks Mr Bodoano 🎩”

“The Buxton /Chorley gig was one of many crazy road trips we did ( as did so many bands across the country) in beat up old vans, often Ford Transit sometimes a big old Bedford all of which would never be allowed near a road today, winters were such fun frozen radiators on the East Lancs or over the hills in thick fog at 1am.
The difference between us and those Liverpool lads is we didn’t have Mal Evan’s or Neil Aspinall driving just Ray
We used to play a late 3am finish each Weds at The Rockingham Club on Queen St ((appropriately ) as it was a gay club (you wouldn’t believe who was in sometimes) then in summer drive up to Buxton for breakfast, getting back home around 7am
Oh the fun we had ???!? /I feel a book coming on!!!!”

“A great band and a great set of musicians in their day especially at the rehersals in the Waterloo. I had first hand experience as their drummer .”
