.....and this is coming in it's place!!”
“there used to be a big venue opposite this too i think... anyone remember?”
“are you thinking of Rotters? That was further down opposite Jilly's.”
“Anyone rememebr the brilliant record shop behind Rotters? I knew it as Yanks, it ended up as Power Cuts. A freezing, bare cellar but brilliant stock and how-do-they-do-it prices and queue-round-the-block sales.”
“ah yes Yanks, I spent many an hour in there...think they used to import U.S. stock as damaged goods to get round some tax issues or other, as every album would have a hole drilled through the label or the album cover would have the corner cut off..got some great stuff in there dirt cheap over the years”
“a great shop! i heard that morrissey had a job in yanks once. i bought my stone roses lp in there as well as many others. the name 'power cuts' came from a competition to come up with a name- the winner got £100 of records i think. bloody awful name.”
“I think they had to give up because they could no longer get a good supply of 'cut-outs' from the warehouses in the states.”
“I suspect this redevelopment has now been shelved thanks to the recession.”
