To use the map, you need to create an account with our parent website, Manchester Digital Music Archive.

Once you have created an account, you will be able to use both websites.

Uploads to the audio map are anonymous. You will be asked to enter a username, but this is only used if you want to upload artefacts to the main website.

Privacy Policy

‘The Sounds From The Other City Audio Map’ is created by Manchester District Music Archive (MDMA) and From The Other (FTO) and as such are the joint Data Controllers for the project.

Together we are collecting recorded memories about SFTOC 2005-present for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

This privacy policy will explain how our organisations jointly use the personal data we collect from you when you use this website.

WHAT DATA DO WE COLLECT?

MDMA/FTO collect the following data:
  • Personal identification information - this may include name & email address
  • Audio recordings
  • Locations as recorded on a map
Only the following data is made publicly available when you submit a memory:
  • The audio recording
  • The map location associated with it
Please note: for privacy reasons, we ask that you do not include the full names of individuals who are not public figures when making these recordings.

HOW WILL WE USE YOUR DATA?

MDMA collects your data in order to:
  • record memories and insights about Manchester’s music community
  • capture archive recordings for future generations to learn from and enjoy
From The Other collects your data to:
  • share clips or quotes from the recordings via the festival’s communications channels or potentially via press outlets such as radio or printed publications, in order to reach a broader audience for the Audio Map project
  • capture qualitative insights into the festival’s legacy and impact
  • share clips or quotes in future publicity campaigns for the festival
MDMA and SFTOC rely on article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR ‘legitimate purposes processing condition’ to process your personal data for the above purposes.

HOW DO WE STORE YOUR DATA?

MDMA securely stores your data digitally on its website server.

MDMA will retain the recordings you publish on this webpage and your associated contact details for as long as the map remains live, which will be a minimum of 5 years.

You have a range of rights in relation to your personal data including the right of access to that data, the right to request it is deleted, amended or that we stop processing it. If you wish to exercise these rights please contact: info@mdmarchive.co.uk

You can also contact FTO directly via info@fromtheother.com to discuss or raise a request in relation to the use of your personal data for the uses described above. You also have a right of complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office about the use of your personal data.

WHAT ARE YOUR DATA PROTECTION RIGHTS?

MDMA & FTO would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

  • The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data we keep on our platform. We may charge you a fee for this service.
  • The right to rectification – You have the right to request that MDMA/FTO correct any information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • The right to erasure – You have the right to request that MDMA/FTO erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that MDMA/FTO restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to MDMA/FTO’s processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to data portability – You have the right to request that MDMA/FTO transfer the data that we have collected to another organisation, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
