Uploads to the audio map are anonymous. You will be asked to enter a username, but this is only used if you want to upload artefacts to the main website.

Privacy Policy

Manchester Digital Music Archive (MDMA) is collecting recorded memories about Manchester’s rave community 1985-1995 for a Heritage Lottery Funded project called The Lapsed Clubber. The project seeks to capture these memories for future generations to learn from and enjoy. These recordings are publicly available but the names and contact details of those individuals submitting them are not published alongside their recordings. Please note: for privacy reasons, we ask that you do not include the full names of individuals who are not public figures when making these recordings.
 
To the extent that these recordings do contain personal data, MDMA is the Data Controller under the General Data Protection Regulation. The Manchester Metropolitan University (‘the University’) will also use these publicly available recordings to carry out research into rave culture and will be the Data Controller where your personal data is used for this research. Please be aware that the project leader at the University, Dr. Beate Peter, may use your email address to contact you if she is interested in interviewing you about your rave memories for research purposes.

MDMA and the University rely on article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR ‘legitimate purposes processing condition’ to process your personal data for the above purposes. The legitimate purposes are: to record memories about Manchester’s rave community, 1985-1995 for a heritage project that seeks to capture the memories of Greater Manchester's rave community for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
 
You have a range of rights in relation to your personal data including the right of access to that data, the right to request it is deleted, amended or that we stop processing it. If you wish to exercise these rights please contact: info@mdmarchive.co.uk

You can also contact the University directly via legal@mmu.ac.uk to discuss or raise a request in relation to the use of your personal data for the University research described above. You also have a right of complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office about the use of your personal data.
 
MDMA will retain the recordings you publish on this webpage and your associated contact details for as long as the map remains live, which will be a minimum of 5 years.
