“David with The Riot Squad did indeed play The Tabernacle Club, on the 9th April 1967. It is documented via a number of highly credible sources.
David was never an actual member of the Riot Squad, he did however 'join' them onstage, the reason being by this time David had signed with Deram (Decca) records and was recording ('The Laughing Gnome' single and his debut album 'David Bowie' which were released shortly thereafter. “Joy Division's gig was chaotic indeed, aka: the Bury Riot. Ian was deemed unfit to perform, but turned up after some persuasion from Rob (Gretton) Alan Hempsall (Crispy Ambulance's vocalist) was due to take Ian's place and did indeed sing the first three or four songs of a very short set, Ian then appeared on stage and sang 'Decades' (then titled 'Europop') and 'The Eternal' with everyone joining in on 'Sister Ray' - and that's when the fun started. Someone threw a pint pot at the stage - bedlam broke out. A gang of skinheads had also been present at the gig, that was their cue to join in.”
“Howard McDermot played keyboards for Apres Noir, he also had a stint with ACR. Sadly Howard is no longer with us.
Apres Noir supported Depeche Mode at Fagins”
