Poppyheads
Poppyheads was a 5 piece band. Guitarist and lead singer, Dorian Brown from Coventry invited his friend, guitarist Nathan Pritchard, who lived in Manchester to join him and form a band. Although both were originally from Coventry, as Nathan lived in Manchester, Dorian moved there and they auditioned other members. They met several musicians (including Lisa who later formed Sister George), but drummer Paul Kerslake was the first new member that stayed. Paul knew bassist, Martin Brook who also joined and Martin introduced the band to percussionist, Mike McGee. The band played several gigs around Manchester and the North West and a few in Coventry. They recorded a few demos two of which were reviewed by Agra Man in City Life. A USA record label were interested in the band and they concentrated on pursuing this rather than carrying on with recording demos in Manchester. Sadly the USA deal never came to anything and the band split up acrimoniously live on stage at the Buzz Club following an argument between two of the bands' girlfriends! The band, minus Martin Brook played one further gig at the Redhouse (with Andy on Bass) and another at Scarlets, Winsford (with Nathan on bass), and recorded one further demo with Brook, but without Dorian Brown (with Nathan on vocals) but things fizzled out shortly afterwards.
