The tension between the Northern School of Music's memory and teacher-training initiatives and the Royal Northern College of Music's emphasis on training performers are here touched upon by Ida Gertrude Carroll (1905-1995, student and principal of the Northern School of Music) in a letter to her friend and former pupil Joan Bamford.
Does anyone remember the early years or founding of the Royal Northern College of Music? What was the relationship like between the RMCM crew and the NSM?
