Poster
Big Blonde, Tomcat
The George and Dragon
25th August 1991

Poster for Big Blonde gig at The George & Dragon, Tyldesley, Manchester from 25th August 1991.

The gig that will live in infamy! --when we first arrived, everything seemed great. We were greeted by a friendly smiling pub landlord who soon brought us the first of many trays of free drinks, while we got our gear set up.

When it was finally time to play, we were a bit disconcerted to find our 'audience' was a pub full of middle-aged 'normal' looking blokes and women --and there we were, with full make-up, back-combed hair and clothes to match.

As we went through our set, each song was greeted with stony silence and looks which said "What the f**k is this bunch of freaks doing here?" And, after about 4 or 5 songs, the landlady walked up beside me while I was in mid song and bellowed in my ear "You'll have to get off. They f**king hate you!"

Not the highlight of my abortive musical career!

Big Blonde were a Manchester Glam-Punk band and comprised stíobhart sleaze [me: stíobhart matulevicz] on vocals, Chrissi Whizz on guitar, Skinner von Skin on bass and Matz'n'Bootz [Matt Horton] on drums.

[Sorry 'Chrissi' and 'Skinner' but the ravages of time have left me unable to remember your real names!]

I can't remember who Tomcat were, either! Probably a local Tyldesley band.
