Before The Deaf Institute and The Footage pub there was the derelict Grosvenor Picture Palace that was used as a favourite site by Tosh Ryan's flyposting gangs. Tosh is a long-standing Manchester legend, former business partner of Martin Hannett and former co-owner of Rabid Records.

You can see that whilst there were some punk / new wave bands around, the big gigs were still middle of the road acts like Gallagher and Lyle.
