Artefact

Flyer
West Indian Sports & Social Club
12th October 1987

A flyer for The Wedding Present's George Best Tour 1987. Not a Manchester band but with Dave Gedge being from Middleton and the Bestie link, close enough for this artefact.

The Wedding Present will be playing a series of concert dates in October 2007 to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the release of their debut album, George Best. For the British leg of the tour the band will revisit each of the towns played on the original George Best tour of 1987. Furthermore, the album will be played in its entirety as part of the set each night.

Tour dates are;

23 Stirling FUBAR
24 Edinburgh Liquid Rooms
25 Glasgow Queen Margaret Union
26 Manchester University
27 Liverpool Academy
28 Nottingham Rescue Rooms
29 Birmingham Academy
30 Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms
31 London Koko

“you know - and i don't know if i'm right here but these days the wedding present seem to be pretty much a distant memory. at the time they were fairly big and now i never hear anyone talking about them. their rarer singles used to go for a very respectable amount of money. i wonder if todays younger music fans are into them?”

“I reckon the Arctic Monkeys and the Courteeners owe a big debt to David Gedge's Northern, conversational lyrical style.”
