“I met Howard in a similar pose after an Apollo gig in 1979 (Simple Minds supporting!) As he was signing an autograph my friend playfully touched his dome, and Howard intoned in that sinister monotone "Who's measuring my head?"”
“Brendan I think that must have been the same night and occasion. I remembered he said something about his head or hair. I got his autograph for a guy who lived in the USA who I was a penpal with at the time.
I recall the bands Manager was dating Sarah Brightman who at the time was in Hot Gossip and they drifted past us. Do you remember this?”
“I don't I'm afraid - that's an incredible fact though! It was Spring of 1979, because a friend of mine went to live on a Kibbutz a few weeks later. Maybe we stood shoulder to shoulder, jostling for autographs!”
“It was actually April 23rd - Magazine with Support Simple Minds at Manchester Apollo 1979 to be exact :-) I kept a diary. Its a small world, did you go and see them recently in Manchester?”
