Letter
Ida Carroll, Geoffrey Griffiths, Granville Hill, St James Church Choir at Birch-in-Rusholme
1940

"Granville Hill
Is a pill
Mrs Wood
Isn't good"

Apparently Griff is quite put out that Ida is spending some time with Granville Hill, the pianist and music critic.
He is "sorry to appear awkward about the ticket" but knows none of his friends can/would take it. "The cads at Birch are well-nigh hopeless when it comes to listening to music - cannot speak for the Sopranos but steadfastly refuse to try it on them!"
He will not be napping any time during the concert, keeping an eye on Ida and Hill, "hordes of people won't prevent me, if I sit bolt upright I cab see right over their heads." Ok Griff that's gone from jealousy to stalking, take a breath.
He relays some working patterns at the travel agents and has been practicing on his cello Boris but is not yet good enough to share his efforts.
"On reflection, more than two seconds would be necessary for me to join you outside my window. I should have to fall out of the window to do it in that time, so there would be more dignity and safety if about fifteen seconds were allowed using the stairs and unlatching the door." Probably wise.
"Granville Hill
Makes me ill".
