Artefact
This violin bow is from Germany in the early part of the 20th century. It has a really interesting and unique mechanism: a hinge on the body of the bow which allows it to be shortened to fit into a smaller case. The notes in the item's history say that it has been altered by J. Shaw, the Hulme-based luthier. It is likely a companion piece to the dismountable violin by Jules-Joseph Grandjon, also pictured here, gifted by an alumnus of the Royal Manchester College of Music.
