This beautiful bow was made in around 1760 in England, later mounted in Italy in the late 1800s. The frog (the part of the bow keeping the hair strings in place) is made of ivory and carved in the shape of a coiled snake with the hairs coming from its mouth and a barbed point to its tail. The end of the bow looks like a square-studded beehive. It made its way to the RNCM museum after it was part of the Josiah Chapman collection.
