A mute violin, made in the late 19th century in Saxony. These instruments were used mostly by students for practicing, ensuring they could work on their technique in between lessons without annoying the neighbours with all the noise. Without a soundboard and body to resonate the sound, the notes played on the mute violin are 'muted'. This instrument was donated to the RNCM museum in 1978.
