Michael Cowlan
Cowlan Instrument Makers
1840

This clarinet was made sometime between 1830-1850. It is made of boxwood, ivory and brass.

Michael Cowlan (d1874) was listed as active in the 1830/40s and he continued to give his occupation as Musical Instrument Maker in Manchester census returns up to and including 1871. The address of his shop at the time this was made was on 12 King Street, and this is the only clarinet known by this local maker
