Artefact
This cast of Frederic Chopin's left hand, supposedly made by Clésinger who made his death mask taken from Chopin's body upon his death. In 1910 it was presented by Miss S.F. Scott to RMCM; 1936-78 on loan, together with Chopin's death mask, to Henry Watson Music Library.
Chopin performed in Manchester just a year before his death and was a left-handed pianist, writing music for tricky left hand work, reflecting the notable flexibility of his hand allowing incredible breadth across the keyboard.
