From my teenage diary: "Alex was great! A 40 year old rock star - a degenerate, inebriated Glaswegian - a decadent father figure. He struggled with his costume changes, ate roses, took command of the audience - great!
We had to leave during the encore (Delilah) and ran like mad to Victoria station to catch the last train - 10.30. Hitched from Burscough to Ormskirk -back for 12 o'clock!"

“I was at the same gig, also in the centre circle. It was my first gig and Alex was fantastic. Vambo Rools!”

“Think it was this gig where, after Alex had broken out of his jail whilst performing 'framed' that two lads in front of me started fighting over a piece of polystyrene from the jail wall, and suddenly without warning Alex jumped down off the stage, grabbed both by the scruff of their necks and bellowed “there’s no f***ing fighting at ma gigs” before banging their heads together and climbing back on stage to complete the song……….happy days

“Me and my friend were at the front at this one. Alex had a very snotty nose and sang to me. Bless him. Loved him. But I fancied the guitarist Zal.”

“My brother was a student in Hull and did some security for concerts- he told me they had to hold a board up for Alex to walk out into the audience on.”
