“Alan, Do you remember the trad band that played every sat night at the thatched house, this was the jazz aces, fronted by my old works colleague dizzy burton.he and I worked at the c.w.s. joinery and shopfitting dept, vere street, salford.5.
My wife and I used to visit the thatched house every sat night.
The band was known as dizzy burton and the jazz taces, dez(Desmond.) lead on trumpet and vocals, ken parkinson on trombone, from ellesmere park, eccles. was also a keen staunch band member.
regretfully ken had an illness about that time we supprted the group, and sadly passd on.this information has now been corrected, apparently Parky, has survived his illness, which I believed brought on his departure, and he now advises he is alive and well at the grand Young age of 85 ,living safely in Preston, I hope that he is still playing his trombone.
It is only by writing personally,on a salford city, forum site that people responded to my tales of visiting the jazz clubs in manchester on a sat night, that I learned dez had only passed away a few years earlier,he used to live with his parents and lived over his fathers camera and photographic shop in prestwich village.
Ann my wife who you and your wife will remember from the past, used to go out with the jazz aces when they played out of town.We must have been the original camp followers, carrying the instruments to gain acess to venues like the original caverns in liverpool,”

“I'm enjoying all the stuff you're uploading. they fill in a lot of gaps in our picture of Manchester's pre 1960's music scene.”

“I also went to the thatched house if I wasn't playing. When I first went, there were three floors of jazz, the bottom floor with a band of Mu. medics called 'the gutbucket five' lol. I also went to the Sportsman on Market street, where my mate played piano with Dizzy's band. At one time there were two girls in the band, Sue McManus on banjo and Brenda - on piano. The licence closed at 9.30pm!”

“I would like to make a comment to "Bargainhunter".
Your information is incorrect as KEN PARKINSON, Trombonist is not dead as stated but alive and kicking at the grand old age of 85 years & lives near Preston, Lancashire. Therefore your information is certainly incorrect.”
