this is 1978. It was my 19th birthday and Magazine's second gig if you include their guest performance at the last night of the Electric Circus.”

“I remember Magazine's first live performance at the Electric Circus, and then their first proper gig at Rafters. But I could have sworn this was 1977. It seems amazing that over a year passed between their first and second gigs, plus I was at art school with John, Magazine's guitarist (RIP), and I distinctly remember lending him my guitar for H Devoto to use and him returning the guitar to me the next day, but by October 1978 we had left college and I didn't see John for another 3 years. So I'm convinced this is 77.”

“My mistake. The old brain cells. It was 1977 and I was 18 that day. I was friends with Bob Dickinson (the keyboard player) and he was very nervous as this was Magazine's first full gig.”
