Before the Bridgewater Hall was opened in 1996, the Hallé Concerts Society and orchestra operated out of a few spaces in the city. Originally, its box office and mailing address was Forsyths Brothers music shop on Deansgate, then it took over management of the Free Trade Hall and operated from there, and when that was bombed in 1940, it took up its first separate offices at Peter Street.
