“At least we didn't get rained on. I can't imagine spending that long at a gig again - I can't remember what we did between bands as we had a standing ticket.”

“It was the 80's - I think it was still going late 80's. Me and my sister used to listen avidly every week and tape the programmes (only for personal use). Phil , Kathy(?) and somebody else (sorry)”

“I had a look at yours - they're a great reminder of the day. Marc Riley looks young! I don't know why I didn't take more photos - maybe I was near the end of the film.”

“This is all the better for being able to see the crowd and the size of it all”

“I was in row EE (for the start of the first song anyway) and the reason the seats collapsed was because so many people ran to the front that the weight of the crowd in front of the stage bent and then broke the seats backwards as they were on wooden frames. The crowd had to walk along the backs of the seats to escape from being crushed. A girl in front of us was trapped by her legs and we weren't able to pull her free - I suspect there could have been broken bones. We ended up at the back after trying to get help from - as correctly stated, staff more used to dealing with classical concerts. Gave up and watched from the back - totally pissed off. At the end we went to recover our coats and found wooden spikes sticking up where the seats had broken off. I am still mentally scarred to this day. So much for getting good seats. The Red Guitars were good as support.”

“Hi Mat - sorry, I didn't realise Piccadilly Records was already in there as a venue...don't know what else I will dig out these long winter nights.”

“Wasn't Meltdown a show on Radio Manchester many years ago?”

“I remember it being red hot that day. The following year there was another festival in Platt Fields - Manchester against Apartheid and it rained then as I have photos and people have umbrellas up”

“Known as Sloskys just before it changed to International 2. James and the Stone Roses did a joint benefit gig for something. There was a drinking room to the left when you first went in. You had to go down some narrow stairs to get to the main hall - I remember bouncers trying to shove everybody down the stairs but it was so packed it was impossible to move. There was also a small kind of balcony to the right the mixing desk or dj were up there sometimes. Housemartins played here - the set lasted a couple of hours despite the lighting rig falling off the ceiling onto the band. Once they shifted it (Lighting rig 1 - Housemartins 0) they did a cracking long set.”
