HGB died with his companion Tom Baird in the Cairngorms in 1928, in a way very similar to that described in this poem written a year before his death. Hubert Bedford was inspired to write the music following newspaper accounts of this event, and presented the MS to the Barrie family. With a note concerning this and two other items donated to the RNCM by James Sellars.
