From a former Victorian Mill, to photo printing equipment provider in the 1950’s This basement venue opened as a Snack bar and nightclub and later launched a blues club. In 1999 the venue was bought by Kate Mountain and rebirthed as The Roadhouse. She ran the club until its closure in 2015.
The Roadhouse was unique and its small size (200 max capacity) proved to be an unforgettable experience for all who attended. Heavily associated with the club were Elbow whose members worked as bar staff and other local bands such as Doves, The Courteeners and Badly Drawn Boy had memorable performances there too.
Emerging bands from all around the world made appearances early in their careers there such as Muse, The White Stripes and Coldplay.
Essentially, the Roadhouse was a small, vital Manchester venue where many big bands started, creating a legacy of raw, memorable live music and firmly establishing itself in local folklore and the Manchester music scene.
