Thanks to the generosity of Arthur Reynolds and the National Heritage Memorial Fund, in Autumn 2026 the Hallé Archive has become the new home of an exceptional archive of over 1,500 Elgar artefacts.
The story of the collection and its catalogue is hosted on the Connecting Manchester's Music Archives network within MDMArchive.
Spanning autographed manuscripts, first-edition scores, correspondence with his contemporaries and personal items that reveal glimpses of Elgar’s everyday life, the collection offers an unrivalled insight into the world and work of one of the UK’s most celebrated composers.
The archive is housed in the Hallé's current archive facilities in Bridgewater Hall and is available for the public to view, by appointment. As a sneak peek into some of the treasures, please enjoy this exhibition.
